Forest School Training in the Dragonfly Wood

We are passionate about the value of forest school and continue to offer Forest School training for teachers and school staff, child care professionals and volunteers here at our dedicated training site. The forest school courses we offer cover all the skills, theory and experience you need to set up and run forest school at your own site, and we can also provide groups for those wishing to get further experience before starting your independent or school-based forest school journey. The forest school ethos embeds learning by experience in nature, with creativity and character development at its core. The training days we offer reflect this ethos; based in the outdoors, with extensive practical experience for a deeper understanding and personal development through the course. We look forward to welcoming you to our next group.
Details about each course can be found below.
Our courses are kept small, allowing a focus on your needs, your future plans for forest school and an understanding of the barriers you may face, while covering all the requirements for the fully accredited course. All trainees are offered an initial tutor visit to the local site they will be working from to allow for additional support through the course. Trainees can also receive feedback for practice sessions at their own site or with a Dragonfly Wood group.

We pride ourselves on offering support throughout the duration of your course – from the introductory visit to your site, right through to your final portfolio submission. One-to -one tutorials and email contact is available to answer your questions, clarify practice and support you to complete the course fully ready to confidently share your passion for forest school with groups.

Even when your training is complete you are welcome to join us at seasonal Gatherings, to keep in touch with a local network of practitioners and continue to develop and reflect upon your outdoor learning practice. We also offer free refresher courses in tool use and campfires in the years following your completed training.

All costs are outlined below, and with the current lack of funding for outdoor learning and forest school training, we do everything we can to keep these costs highly competitive to allow access for schools and individuals, while maintaining a high-quality professional training experience.

  • Our trainers are experienced in teaching, forest school, play therapy and teacher training.
  • All courses fully accredited by NOCN (National Open College Network).
  • All courses can be taken on a ‘practice only’ basis (non-accredited skills training) at a reduced cost.
  • We build upon skills from Level 1, 2 and 3. Trainees completing each level with us are entitled to a reduction when moving on to the next level of training.
  • Schools receive reduced rates for sending two practitioners on the same course.
Please get in touch with any questions and to discuss the course that best suits your professional needs and career aspirations.
